Rockford Rescue Mission serves approximately 350 meals each day, and we need your help to provide not only food and nutrition but a friendly face!

Note: The shift times listed include extra time for getting ready before serving. 

 

Qualifications for this opportunity:

A servant's heart, a good work ethic and a positive attitude. Able to do manual labor for at least one hour, work well with others, listen to instructions and carry out assigned tasks with minimum supervision. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or adult while serving. Children under 13 may serve beverages and/or help bus tables in the Great Room or roll silverware in our small dining room with an adult. 

Parking, Entrance, and Check-In/Out:

During office hours: If you arrive on a weekday when our offices are open (8:00am-4:30pm), you may park in the lot directly across the street from our front door – 715 W State St – and check in with our receptionist.  Outside of office hours: You may park in our small parking lot at the back of our building on Mulberry St. Ring the doorbell on the outside wall to gain entrance to our Food Service Department. Let the kitchen staff know that you are there to volunteer. (This entrance should only be used outside of office hours.) 

Check-In/Out: Please Check-In and Check-Out by using the tablet/computer on the front/kitchen desk.

When you arrive:

Wash hands, grab a “stylish” hairnet, an “even more stylish” apron and a pair of gloves. Hairnets and gloves are on the counter. Aprons are in the upper cabinet. Supervisor trains them to do in the office.

What type of mentor are we looking for? 

An individual with a compassionate heart and knows how to have empathy for people that are going through a hard time.  We desire individuals who have a strong faith in Jesus Christ and want to demonstrate the love of God by caring and serving the person they are mentoring.   


Requirement: We desire the mentor would go through the mentoring training that has been created by the Rockford Rescue Mission at the designated date offered. The leadership team of the Recovery program would be responsible for leading the training and answering any questions an interested mentor would have.  

How the mentoring relationship works:

Mission will pick and partner resident and mentor up. The first three visits need to be at the Rescue Mission.Meet twice a month with resident. Be prayerful going into your meetings with an open heart.Be open to writing letters of encouragement to the resident.

The Works! Center is open Monday - Friday, 9:00-11:00am and 12:00-2:00pm. 

Description: Do you like being seen as a friendly start to someone's day? If so, we would love to have you volunteer in the Works! Center as an office greeter! This role is best suited to someone who wears a genuine smile all day long. Greeter tasks include being a welcoming presence at the Works! Center entrance and assisting with light administrative tasks (scanning guest IDs, recording resources provided to guests, occasionally answering basic questions.)
